Dr. Scott Summerlin, D.D.S.
For Dr. Scott Summerlin, the idea of Dentistry as a profession was first sparked by a junior high class called Career Orientation (we referred to it as CO). The assignment was to decide what you wanted to be when you grew up. “So I asked my parents what they thought would be a good career. They said I should consider health care because people will always need care. I didn’t like the idea of being a physician for many reasons but I knew very little about dentistry at the time.
My only experience with dentistry was check-ups and cleanings. I happened to be in braces at the time. I liked what I saw when it came to orthodontics. People came in with crooked teeth or bad bites and the orthodontist would give them beautiful smiles and great bites. People liked being there because they saw improvements every visit. Plus, the orthodontist didn’t do any of the bad things like give shots or extract teeth. That school assignment in the 7th grade set me on a path to become a dentist.”
